Indian Poker League’s legality under fire

An Indian gaming law website has questioned the legality of Raj Kundra’s Match Indian Poker League regarding a membership payment.

India.- Indian gaming law website Glaws.in has fired against the legality of the Match Indian Poker League (IPL) as the requirement to pay an annual membership of US$15,50 in order to participate of the tournament. Raj Kundra from Viaan Industries and the International Federation of Poker (IFP) have maintained that the IPL is a free to play competition but Glaws.in argues the membership payment could be considered as a wager.

According to the website, poker franchise owners have the right to choose their players independently of Match IPL mobile app results as the tournament argues. As CalvinAyre reported, the website further states that you can’t call Match IPL a game of skill if players are competing against a bot, ignoring former AI experiences against top performers at different activities.

Poker in India has been under scrutiny as the authorities still consider it as a game of luck and keep it forbidden. However, operators with interest in the country want to change the tide and get them to brand it as a game of skill in order to normalise its situation.
