Wynn scandal could affect US project
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will review the Wynn Boston Harbor project following allegations against Steve Wynn.
US.- Casino mogul Steve Wynn was recently accused of sexual misconduct, with the scandal forcing him to step down as finance chairman of the Republican National Committee. However, it could also affect his private business, as the Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced it will review the Wynn Boston Harbor project, set to open in 2019.
The regulatory body released a statement saying it is: “aware of – and is taking very seriously – the troubling allegations detailed in the Wall Street Journal article,” adding: “The suitability and integrity of our gaming licensees is of the utmost importance, and ensuring that suitability is an active and ongoing process. Consequently, the MGC’s Investigations and Enforcement Bureau will conduct a regulatory review of this matter to determine the appropriate next steps.”
Brendan Moss, a spokesman for Governor Charlie Baker further revealed that he’s “deeply disturbed” and said: “ This administration has a zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment and expects the Commonwealth’s employers to create a safe work environment for all employees where reporting harassment of any kind is encouraged and properly addressed.”
Steve Wynn was accused of sexual misconduct by several employees but firmly denied these allegations: “The idea that I ever assaulted any woman is preposterous (…) We find ourselves in a world where people can make allegations, regardless of the truth, and a person is left with the choice of weathering insulting publicity or engaging in multi-year lawsuits. It is deplorable for anyone to find themselves in this situation.”
The Wynn Boston Harbor resort casino is set to open on the banks of the Mystic River in the Boston suburb Everett. The US$2 billion project began construction in 2016 and is currently set to open in the summer of 2019.
