Ukraine still waiting for gaming progress

Bill that would legalise gambling set for second reading in April or May.

Ukraine.- Ukraine lawmakers have been pushing legislation that would legalise gambling in the country, but progress is slow.

A Bill has already passed through its first reading but it looks like a second reading won’t take place until April at the earliest.

The Bill will need 226 votes to be approved and gaming remains a controversial topic in the country.

That said, the Bill received 260 votes in favour at its first reading back in January.

“As far as I know, two sections of the bill have been considered, more than 1,500 revisions have been made,” Vadim Misyura, the General Director of All-Ukrainian Union of Bookmakers, said.

“It can be stated that the current level of discussion, both within the Parliament and within the profile environment, is tense and active. And this is understandable because there are a lot of reputation and political risks both for the government, and for business,” he added.
