Sports betting in Delaware goes down in April

After the major boost from NCAA basketball, sports betting in Delaware posted a month-on-month decline in revenue during April.

US.- The sports betting segment continues to thrive in the US ever since the Supreme Court struck PASPA down. However, Delaware posted a revenue drop in April after it amounted to US$616k.

Last month’s results turned out to be disappointing, but only where compared with the most successful month. March was boosted to US$1.64 million by the NCAA basketball tournament one of the most important events in US sports.

Players spent US$6.1 million in April, down from the previous US$10.5 million. Furthermore, they won US$5.4 million, considerably less than the US$8.6 million from March.

Delaware Park led the market with US$370k (down from US$1.03 million), followed by Dover Downs’ US$131k (down from US$328). Harrington Raceway was third, raking US$115k, way less than the previous US$1.8 million.

The online market disappointed just as much as sports betting in Delaware reached just over US$263k.

So far, the segment has posted revenue of US$3.7 million up to April 30, from US$37 million in total wagers. Online sports betting in Delaware, on the other hand, reached US$1.1 million from US$43 million in bets.

March Madness

March Madness, one of the biggest sports events of the year in the US, has helped Delaware recover from an extremely underwhelming performance in February. The state posted US$1.6 million in revenue in March, representing a 228% increase from February.

The figure posted in March represents the best performance so far in 2019 and the highest total since the Delaware Lottery registered US$2.1 million in December 2018. All three facilities that offer sports betting services reported month-on-month increases.

During March, punters bet US$16.1 million on sports, a figure that is lower than the US$16.4 million wagered in February. However, this was offset by consumers only winning US$13.6 million in March compared to the US$15.1 million in February.
