Senator Xenophon determined to stop underage gambling
Nick Xenophon is calling for a government intervention to stop underage Australians from using gambling sites connected to online video games.
Australia.- South Australian Senator Nick Xenophon demands a government intervention to stop underage Australians from using gambling sites connected to popular online video games such as Counter Strike.
The senator declared that he would like to see changes made to the Interactive Gambling Act 2001, to avoid underage gambling linked to popular multiplayer first-person shooter games. The industry proved to be hugely in recent years, however, Xenophon called it the “Wild West of online gambling” and claimed that such sites were targeting kids who were being “groomed to gamble.”
The general concern has centred around unregulated gambling sites linked to the first person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Xenophon has a long track as antagoniser of the gambling industry and its sheer lack of current regulation in the area of video game gambling. The South Australian senator commented that he plans to submit a bill when parliament returns this month to include games such as Counter Strike under the Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
