Rivers Casino Portsmouth hosts groundbreaking ceremony
Construction has officially begun on the Virginia casino, which will open in early 2023.
US.- Rivers Casino Portsmouth, in Virginia, has hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to officially launch the construction of the new gaming and entertainment resort. It is scheduled to open in early 2023.
Developed and operated by Rush Street Gaming, the $300m project will feature a casino, BetRivers Sportsbook, hotel, restaurants, a live entertainment lounge and event centre at the intersection of Victory Blvd and Freedom Avenue.
Portsmouth´s Mayor, Shannon Glover, said: “This is truly an exciting time for the citizens of Portsmouth — particularly as it relates to job growth and the overall economic vitality of our great city.
“We are pleased to also create new business opportunities and introduce an entirely new industry to Portsmouth. We remain confident that this project will enhance the vibrancy of our community.”
Rush Street Gaming CEO, Greg Carlin, added: “Today marks a significant milestone for Rush Street Gaming and for the Commonwealth of Virginia. We’re excited to expand our Rivers Casino brand family and help launch the state’s casino industry right here in the City of Portsmouth.”
General Manager of Rivers Casino Portsmouth, Roy Corby, commented: “Rivers Casino’s proven model of elevated gaming experiences and thoughtful community integration will create a strong and sustainable economic engine for Portsmouth.”
The Virginia Lottery, which is tasked with overseeing the licensing, building, and future gaming operations of the state’s four land-based commercial casinos, signed off on the Rivers Portsmouth plan in January.
