US.- The Virginia Lottery has paid out more than $1bn in prizes to online players following the launch of its ilottery platform 16 months ago. More than 213,000 unique players saw more than 196m wins. However, 70 per cent of total lottery sales still take place at traditional retail locations.

Kevin Hall, Virginia Lottery executive director said: “The Lottery is constantly looking for innovative and convenient ways to meet customer expectations while also providing lots of opportunities for our players to imagine the possibilities of a winning moment.

“Online lottery games continue to help support our mission of generating profits for K-12 education all across the Commonwealth.”

In 2020, Virginia Lottery sales grew during the pandemic while other gambling options were closed. Ticket sales increased by around 36 per cent to $181.5m in the first three months of the fiscal year, compared with the same period in 2019.
