US.- Red Deer Resort & Casino has opened in Central Alberta at the former Capri Hotel. The new owners, the O’Chiese Business and Investment Centre say, say renovation work will continue on the 38,000-square-foot casino, which has slot machines, table games a poker room, dining rooms and a bar.

The resort has 241 guestrooms, 15 meeting rooms and a 53,000-square-feet conference centre. According to the firm, the expansion of the casino and upgrades to the hotel are expected to increase employment by up to 20 per cent with an increased need for dealers, servers, and housekeeping professionals.

O’Chiese CEO George Yammine said: “The completion of the casino is a major milestone for us and the City of Red Deer. The casino will be a key driver of tourism and economic growth in the region, becoming a hub for entertainment for the region and beyond.”

Hotel operations manager Adrian Strawberry said: “We look forward to welcoming guests to Red Deer Resort & Casino and providing them with a world-class entertainment experience. We have worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition and we cannot wait for you to experience it.”

Ontario igaming market generates US$14bn in wagers in Q2

In July, iGaming Ontario (iGO) released its market performance report for the first quarter of its 2023-2024 fiscal year. It reports that $14bn was wagered between April 1 and June 30. Gaming revenue was C$545m, up 3.6 per cent compared to Q4’s $526m.

Active player accounts dropped below a million by the end of the quarter, falling to 920,000 from the 1.01m reported in the previous quarter. Average monthly spend per active player account improved to $197 (Q4: $174).
