Philippines strikes tourism deal with China

Philippine casinos will benefit from the tourism deal signed by the two Asian countries.

Philippines.- China and the Philippines had reached an agreement to implement the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on tourism cooperation signed in 2002. The goal is to encourage investment in tourist infrastructure and boost tourism between the countries.

The first step of the agreement includes a charter flight service between Guangzhou and Laoag, operated by the Jimei Group, a Macau-based casino operator that also operates two casinos in the Philippines. Wanda Corazon T. Teo, Philippine Department of Tourism secretary, said that the Chinese tourists will stay at the casino Fort Ilocandia, where they can also play gold.

The deal came during the first official visit of Philippines president Rodrigo Détente to China, who declared his intentions to establish formal ties with the other Asian country. According to specialists, one of the benefits will be a better view of Chinese citizens traveling to the Pihillipines with the sole purpose of gambling, therefore, it would boost Philippine casinos.
