NY village insists on casino license
Islandia village in New York State will appeal the Supreme Court’s resolution regarding a casino license.
US.- The Supreme Court’s ruling against New York casino license will be appealed by the Islandia village, Suffolk County. According to the Justice’s resolution, the Suffolk OTB-run VLT casino license was granted under improperly operations by Islandia’s authorities, although the local government rejected the statement and will appeal the decision.
Islandia seeks to approve casino operations in the Jake’s 58 hotel in Suffolk County. The gaming salon was approved last year by the Islandia Village Board, including the installation of 1,000 video lottery terminals. However, a strong group of local residents rejected the measure and set a legal fight against the casino.
The New York State Supreme Court Justice William G. Ford was in charge of following the procedure against the casino and he later announced his decision regarding the license. According to Ford’s ruling, issued on September 8, the Islandia government has improperly issued permits for casino operations, dismissing the authorities’ attempt of expanding gaming industry in the village.
Weeks after the Supreme Court’s ruling, the government and Jake’s 58 operators decided to appeal te resolution and insist on casino license. Jake’s 58 owners pointed out that they believe the appeal would be successful as the casino brings millions of dollars in tax revenue and aids directly educational programs.
