North Carolina sports betting handle decreases in December

Players wagered $629.5m on sports, down 5.7 per cent from November.

US.- The North Carolina State Lottery Commission has released its sports wagering revenue report for December. The monthly report on the eight interactive sports wagering operators licensed in the state shows a handle of $629.5m, down 5.7 per cent from November’s $657.7m. Winnings totalled $590.8m.

Gross wagering revenue was $35.7m, down from $78.1m in November when eight mobile sportsbooks generated the second-highest gross revenue after April ($105.2m). After the 18 per cent tax rate is applied, the estimated monthly tax proceeds for December would be $6.4m.

Governor Roy Cooper signed sports betting into law on June 14, 2023, allowing mobile betting on horse racing, professional, college and Olympic sports and esports. Mobile sports wagering launched in North Carolina on March 11, 2024.
