NFL to address sports betting at US Congress
Representatives for the American football league will explain their stance on sports betting before the US Congress.
US.- The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) has already been struck down by the Supreme Court of the United States and sports betting is clear to be regulated all over the country. However, the NFL is expected to present its stance on the segment before the US Congress.
The American football league, as well as its peers from other sports, have previously voiced their opposition to the gambling market. However, once they saw PASPA revoked, leagues started to address the segment differently, calling for an “integrity fee” from bets, looking to get a cut from the pie.
“As it was for my predecessors, there is no greater priority for me as the Commissioner of the National Football League than protecting the integrity of our sport. Our fans, our players and our coaches deserve to know that we are doing everything possible to ensure no improper influences affect how the game is played on the field. This week’s ruling by the Supreme Court has no effect on that unwavering commitment,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a statement released in May.
