New Mexico to decide on new racing track

The state’s Racing Commission will decide in December whether it issues a licence for a new horse-racing track.

US.- A new horse racing-track could soon be developed in New Mexico as the local authorities may clear the way for a new venue. The New Mexico Racing Commission (NMRC) is projected to determine whether it issues a licence for a racing track and to which operator as soon as next December.

The racing track would include an accompanying slot-machine casino and is set to be approved – or not – over the next few weeks. The NMRC has a meeting scheduled for next November 15, when it may vote on whether it will proceed with the issuance of the licence for the sixth venue in the state and complete the process in early December, before Governor Susana Martínez leaves office.

Should the November 15 vote be positive, a new hearing will take place on November 28 to hear final presentations, including potential economic harm studies by the existing New Mexico venues. On December 6, a final meeting would take place, where the winner of the licence would be announced.

The race track would be located either in the Clovis area or at Tucumcari or Lordsburg, which are the locations where different groups plan to develop the venue.
