Nevada could reveal coronavirus hotspots
The governor of Nevada may publish which businesses, including casinos, are coronavirus hotspots in the state.
US.- Governor Steve Sisolak is facing increasing pressure to share state information to reveal coronavirus hotspots as media outlets continue to try to expose sites that have contributed to the spread of the virus.
It comes amid controversy following The Daily Beast’s publication on Tuesday of interviews with casino employees at Cosmopolitan, who complained of a lack of protection at the venue.
One worker said: “I’ve heard players saying that they like Cosmo better since we opened because we have the fewest rules.”
Workers also spoke of experiencing abuse from customers when asking them to comply with sanitary policies.
Speaking at a press conference, Gov. Sisolak said that revealing specific sites as hotspots for the virus is a potential option.
He said: “If we find a business that’s particularly egregious and has a high propensity of cases, that’s certainly something we could look at releasing.”
However, the governor recognised that exposing sites could lead to wrongly implicating those who are following sanitary measures.
He added: “People might give you five, six, 10 or 20 places that they’ve visited where they might have contracted the disease, but they can’t specify the one place where they actually did.
“We have to be very careful to make sure businesses aren’t harmed by half-information being put out there.”
Last month the Nevada Gaming Control Board fined two casinos that were not complying with coronavirus policies put in place by the governor.
