Mohegan Sun would expand to Europe
The US native tribe that operates casinos in America and Asia would also land in Europe.
Greece.- The Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC) announced last month that Greek authorities allowed a public consultation process for the approval of a casino licence in Elliniko, Southern Athens. Now, the Indian Tribe Mohegan of the United States revealed that they are interested in investing in the casino project.
The Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE) was named by Greek news outlet Kathimerini as one of the international casino company seeking for the approval of the national government in order to be able to land in the European gaming market for the first time. The Mohegan tribe also operates casinos in the US and in South Korea.
The casino project in Greece is a €1 billion entertainment centre in Athens, which also generated interest to international companies Clairvest and Miura Holdings. The total project would be a €8 billion real estate development at the former Hellinikon airport, including a gaming salon that could be operated by the Mohegan tribe.
The Greek regulatory body will first secure the maximum competition, credibility and price for the investment before moving on with the tender. The process involves the creation of an Integrated Resort Casino (IRC) to be built over more than 600,000 square meters which will include hotels, convention centres, themed attractions, a 15,000 square-meter casino and other attractions.
