Mississippi casinos still not ready for sports betting

The waiting period to start offering sports betting in the state ended this weekend but casinos are still not ready.

US.- Mississippi is poised to become the third state in the US to legalise and open the sports betting industry, but while the standing period finished this weekend, casinos are still in the renovation phase of their facilities, therefore they are still not ready to launch its operations.

Mississippi’s gaming commissioner Allen Godfrey said that the casinos that applied for licences to operate sports betting as early as this weekend are still modifying space in their businesses to build sports bars and other requirements before they can actually be approved to start operations.

“Right now, the ones wanting to get started are still in the renovation phase,” he said, and noted that it is expected that two more weeks will pass before a casino is actually approved to start accepting bets on sports.

While all 28 casinos in the state are expected to be approved for sports betting in the near future, only 13 riverboat and land-based properties are under review of the state’s gaming commission after they applied for licences. Godfrey said that none of those properties have applied to run sports betting on cell phones or other mobile devices.
