Kansas Lottery to push a new bill

Officials announced that they will sponsor a bill that would allow self-service dispensers.

US.- The Kansas Lottery confirmed that they have the intention to sponsor a bill in this year’s legislative session. Under the possible legislation, Kansas would be able to operate self-service electronic dispensers.

The new measure would bring approximately US$30 million extra in lottery tickets sales. Deputy executive director of the Kansas Lottery, Sherriene Jones-Sontag, said that the installation in retail locations would boost the state general fund every year by US$8 million to US$10 million. The official said that net sales in the last fiscal year totaled US$273 million, and whilst some politicians are expected to be opposed to the new bill, the US$350 million state budget deficit that Kansas currently faces could be a good reason to legalise self-service dispensers.

The lottery officials held a few meetings in the last few days, where they also discussed the gaming revenues. Jones-Sontag confirmed that lottery sales reached US$128 million during the current fiscal year, a 5 percent growth compared to the same period a year before.
