Indiana hires firm to study sports betting

A firm with gaming expertise has been hired by the Indiana Gaming Commission to look into sports wagering and its potential legalisation.

US.- The sports betting segment has been cleared to be legalised in the US and several states have already moved forward to do so. That’s why the Indiana Gaming Commission has hired Eilers & Krejcik Gaming to “consult and assist the state in regards to various issues and matters related to sports wagering, including, but not limited to, market analysis, demographic analysis, fiscal analysis, costs, revenue forecast, revenue impacts, and policy considerations.”

“We’re regulators and we view our role as being able to provide education,” said Sara Gonso Tait, executive director of the commission and added: “We wanted to produce a neutral report that could aid decision-makers.”

According to Tait, the gaming firm’s report is expected to be ready over the next few months and will be up for legislators to have a look as they’ll decide in the 2019 session whether they want sports betting or not.

Several states like New Jersey have already set up their own sports betting framework and began offering sportsbooks, while many others are still working on licencing or even lawmaking to be ready. With less than a month left for American football season, the sports betting segment is set to be tested on a full scale and the whole country will be looking into its performance as they consider their own regulations.
