Foxwoods Resort Casino hires first tribal member as CEO
Jason Guyot joined Foxwoods Resorts in an entry-level position and has been serving as interim CEO since April 2020.
US.- Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, has appointed Jason Guyot as its chief executive officer, making him the first tribal member the company has appointed to the position.
Guyot began his career with the casino resort, which is owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, over 18 years ago in an entry-level position.
He has been working as acting CEO since last April when John James resigned.
Guyot stepped into the CEO role at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic when properties were subjected to government-imposed closures and restrictions. The company was forced to furlough 100 workers.
Back in January, the company had to dip into its own funds to meet the minimum contribution from slots revenues defined in the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe’s compact with the state.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s chair, Rodney Butler, said: “What Jason has done over the past twelve months has been remarkable, taking the helm of Foxwoods at the onset of the pandemic, building safety guidelines from the ground up to ensure guests feel safe, and championing a new kind of culture for our team members.”
Butler added that no one was more qualified than Guyot to lead Foxwoods “through its next phase of evolution.”
