Elys Game Technology names new CEO
The Italian gambling operator formerly known as NewGioco Group has named Matteo Monteverdi as chief executive.
Italy.- Elys Game Technology, formerly NewGioco Group, has named Matteo Monteverdi as CEO as of January 1.
He will replace Michele Ciavarella, who will remain at Elys as executive chairman.
Monteverdi has been working as an independent strategic advisor to Elys since March and was appointed as president in September.
He was previously US president of Sportradar, where he was involved in cementing partnerships with the US National Football League and National Basketball Association.
He also served as senior vice president of global digital products at International Gaming Technology (IGT) from 2015 to 2018 and was involved in its acquisition by Gtech, where Monteverdi served as senior vice president of sales and trade marketing, president of digital and sports betting, and senior vice president of igaming and ilottery B2B.
He said: “Given the convergence of shifts in the US regulatory landscape and technological innovation, Elys is positioned to capitalise on emerging trends as sport betting evolves into new forms of entertainment at the intersection of media and gaming.
“The company offers a differentiated omni-channel framework that provides a distinct competitive advantage in this market. I believe Elys has the potential to become a market leader and capture a significant share of the igaming and sports betting markets in Europe and the Americas.”
Ciavarella said: “Matteo brings over 20 years of industry experience, including an amazing track record in the betting, gaming and technology sectors. In the short time since joining the company, he has already demonstrated his leadership and continuous innovation.”
NewGioco rebranded as Elys this month. It has been expanding its US presence since launching on the Nasdaq in January.
Foreign igaming operators recently had some good news after a court in Rome took their side and ordered the extension of igaming licences that expired last month.
