Connecticut to discuss sports betting

The incoming governor of the state is reportedly interested in supporting sports betting.

US.- Connecticut legislators are poised to consider a sports betting legalisation when the legislature convenes on January 9, 2019. Governor-elect Ned Lamont has already said that he would support a bill to legalise sports betting.

Rep. Timothy Ackert said that more states are likely to legalise it. “The federal government has made a ruling,” he said. “Who am I to say you can’t do it?”

Legalising sports betting in Connecticut is “inevitable” due to the existence of the illegal market, the internet and the legalisation in Rhode Island, said Rep. Michael Winkler. “It’s something that’s going to happen whether it’s legal or not,” he said, adding that keeping a strong working relationship with Indian tribes is important and that they should not have the exclusive rights to sports betting.
