Casino2k evaluates Italy’s iGaming ads ban

Operators of Casino2k think the ad regulation may have side effects on iGaming legal market.

Italy.- Totally Gaming newspaper spoke with Casino2k after the Italian Parliament passed on a proposal that bans all gambling-related advertising and sports sponsorships starting next year, leading to an analysis that shows that the regulation for the advertising sector of the iGaming industry could have side effects on legal gaming industry in the country.

Representatives of the Italian online web gaming guide consider that “forbidding every type of advertising on the internet will result in illegal gaming coming back”. With 155 voted in favour, 125 against and one abstained, the Senate approved the Dignity Degree, paving the way for new regulations in the country.

The ban will be applied to gambling products and services advertised on the internet, radio and television, as well as stopping clubs from obtaining gambling sponsors. The only operators exempt from the ban are the state-run national lottery and its products.

Furthermore, Casino2k stated: “The Government lacks knowledge of the market, they don’t understand how online gaming can be strictly controlled, players can ban themselves from gaming sites, operators can recognise addiction and block players. Artificial intelligence can also play an important role in preventing addiction and problematic players.”

Adding: “We think Italy needs better rules because the ban on advertising would produce serious damages and would bring the market back to the early 2000’s. We hope that the government will try to understand how online gaming works.”
