Casino revenue down on the Strip
Gambling facilities located in the Las Vegas Strip experienced a 6 percent fall in revenue during October’s operations.
US.- According to information released on Thursday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, casinos on the Strip collected US$528 million from gamblers in Ocober, approximately US$34 million less than what they collected a year before.
October 2017 had one less weekend day than the same month in 2016, and the latter experienced a 14 percent rise in revenue. Michael Lawton, senior research analyst for the Nevada board, said: “I’m sure it played a part of it. I’m sure it played into the decrease, but it’s really difficult to quantify,. What I can quantify, I can tell you that it was a difficult comparison.”
Visitation also fell 4.2 percent to 3.6 million tourists during October, and whilst nothing official has been informed, it could be due to the shooting that happened during the first day of the month that killed 58 people and injured hundreds more. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority said that the drop happened after the shooting.
Statewide, casinos achieved US$988 million, which are considered flat results when compared to the previous year. However, the Boulder Strip reported a 17.1 percent jump to US$78.7 million in revenue, whilst downtown Las Vegas showed a 10 percent rise to US$63.6 million.
