New Mexico casino hosts census drive
The casino in Farmington hosted an event to boost census participation as the deadline looms.
US.- Northern Edge Casino in New Mexico hosted an event with the Navajo Nation’s census office on Saturday in a bid to boost participation in the 2020 census.
Census workers attended the casino to help tribal members complete the Census 2020 questionnaire as the census office aims to increase participation before the September 30 deadline.
Participation in the census among members of the tribe has been low so far due to lack of internet services. Just 19.9 per cent of the population had registered by September 18.
With the deadline approaching and participation rates still low, the Northern Edge casino offered assistance in collecting data for the census, which the US conducts every ten years.
Northern Edge and Flowing Water Casino general manager Cliff Ehrlich said: “The whole idea is to stimulate the Navajo people to take the census, which is so important for everybody.”
