Australia’s Olympic committee calls for online lottery
The Olympic chief said that he’s 100 percent supportive of the movement.
Australia.- John Coates, Australia’s Olympic chief, said that he wants the government to set up a US$37 million online lottery in order to improve the funding for sports and the arts. He also said that the supports the movement 100 percent.
Chairman of the Australian Sports Commission, John Wylie, also called for the government to set up an online lottery by the end of next year, stating that Australia is at a moment of truth and that it would keep the country’s sports program competitive. “We are on a burning deck in terms of our international performance. There is no better evidence of that than what has been happening at the Olympic Games. If we are going to remain competitive internationally, if we are going to have a healthy and active society, we need to invest significantly more in the system.”
“We are being out-funded by other countries, particularly Britain and Germany. I would give the lottery wholehearted support and I hope it gets up,” said Coates.
