Thailand.- Police have raided operation centres for 16 online gambling sites in Nonthaburi province and arrested 10 people.

According to Bangkok Post, a team with a court order first raided a house that was being used by the gambling site bxslots.com. Officers said that five people in the house were found to chatt with clients online and process financial transactions.

Police then found there were 15 other sites on the same network, each in a residential building in Muang Thong Thani, Pak Kret district. Officers split into teams to raid the other locations. Five other people were arrested during the search.

In total, five men and five women arrested. Police also seized computers, monitors, mobile phones, five fingerprint scanners, internet equipment, four security cameras and computer accessories.

In February, a police raid in Pattaya, Thailand, ended with the seizure of $15m from alleged illegal gambling operators and the arrest of 42 people.

Authorities are studying the legalisation of gambling in Thailand and considering the possibility of allowing a casino in Bangkok first. The government, which has historically opposed gambling, is considering casinos due to the Covid-19 pandemic’s impact on the country’s economy and tourism.
