Mohegan Gaming to open in South Korea in 2022
The pace of construction has been impacted by lockdown measures but has led to incorporation of new safety measures into the design.
South Korea.- American casino operator Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment has signalled the second quarter of 2022 for the inauguration of its new casino in Incheon, close to the international airport.
A spokesperson said the change in schedule was due to “the realities of a more stringent Covid-19-compliant construction process and alterations to design to create a safer environment for guests and employees.”
The pace of construction was impacted by lockdown measures in South Korea and the US, but the operator said it has taken the opportunity to add new safety measures into the design following its experience of the pandemic.
The operator plans to invest about US$5 billion in different phases of construction over two decades. The initial stage will include 1,250 hotel rooms, a 15,000-seat entertainment venue, 40 food and beverage outlets, as well as a foreigner-only gaming venue with 160 table games and 700 slot machines.
Completion of the entire casino and resort, in which only foreigners will be allowed to legally gamble, is expected in 2031.
Kangwon Land is the only casino in South Korea in which locals are allowed to legaly gamble.
