Macau occupancy hits all time low in April

Macau.- Hotels and guesthouses reported a historical low occupancy rate in April. According to data revealed by Macau’s Statistics and Census Service, rates hit just 12.9 per cent during the month.
The figures also revealed that the occupancy rate of Macau’s five-star hotels stood at 6.6 per cent, down by 85.9 percentage points from the prior-year period.
The data indicated that there was an aggregate of 33,800 available guest rooms in Macau, within 110 operating hotels and guesthouses.
Hotel occupancy figures excluded the hotel properties that had been used by the Macau government for its quarantine scheme, imposed on visitors arriving in the SAR.
Macau’s average hotel occupancy rate for the first four months of this year was 34.8 per cent, down by 57 percentage points from a year ago.
In the first four months of 2020, the number of overnight guests that stayed in Macau’s hotels and guesthouses reached 1.58 million, down 65.9 per cent from a year earlier.
