Cambodia new casino opens in Sihanoukville

Cambodia.- Cambodian seaside town of Sihanoukville, is the definition of gaming hub in Cambodia, continuously expanding its offers and opportunities. Chinese investment has flowed into Sihanoukville in recent years, granting it the nickname of “sizeable gambling playground for Chinese tourists”. However, Cambodians are not completely on board with this and regularly reject Chinese suspicious business practices and inappropriate behavior. Recently, there has been much media attention to the issue of casino streaming services based in Sihanoukville aimed at Chinese customers offshore.
Despite this, the town also enjoys of a number of bricks and mortar casino projects, many of those apparently linked in stock market filings and media reports with Chinese investment.
According to a press release by the Cambodian Ministry of Interior, several government officials attended the opening ceremony.
Preliminary information states an investment of approximately €90 million as well as a five-star hotel.
Cambodia authorities have granted 13 casino licences during the first four months of this year. So far government authorities had granted a total of 163 casino licences country-wide.
