ACMA blocked two online casino websites
The websites violated the country’s gambling legislation
Australia.- The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) said last week that it will block unlicensed sites and it started today. The first two online casino sites to be blocked in Australia where the Emu Casino and Fair Go Casino.
“Emu Casino and Fair Go Casino are illegal sites that target Australians. Between the two we have received more than 50 complaints about their conduct,” said ACMA chair Nerida O’Loughlin.
“They’re happy to take your money when you lose, but people have reported to us that they refuse to pay out winnings”, she explained.
The move comes after the ACMA this month started implementing its powers to order ISPs to block access to illegal offshore gambling websites.
These websites violated the country’s gambling legislation and to be having a negative impact on their customers.
The national government estimates that Australians spend up to A$400 million (US$270 million) on illegal gambling websites per year.
