Arkansas court denies casino reconsideration
The Arkansas Supreme Court has denied a request to reconsider the casino-gambling issue on this year’s ballot.
US.- Arkansas Wins 2016, the group that supported the referendum to build three new casinos in Arkansas, asked the Supreme Court to reconsider their position after the high court ruled that the ballot title was misleading since it didn’t inform voters that the measure would violate a federal law that prohibits sports gambling in Arkansas. However, the court responded to the request and stated that they will not reconsider their decision.
The ballot was created to see three new casinos created in Boone, Miller and Washington counties, and if the court passed the amendment, Arkansas voters would’ve been set to see a referendum. The group stated that sports betting wasn’t something that needed to be included in the title since it’s not an essential feature on the proposal.
The proposal initially stated that 18 percent of each casino’s net gambling receipts would’ve gone to the state, another 0.5 percent to the county and 1.5 percent to the city. Voters will stil physically see the issue printed on the ballot on November 8, but votes on the proposed constitutional amendment will not be counted.
