Arizona plans temporary casino

The casino will be primarily open in a temporary building in the tribe reservation zone.

US.- The temporary Apache Sky Casino has set the date of opening by mid-January 2017 in the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation of central Arizona. A permanent version of the same casino will be further built resembling the local tribe’s existing casino, the Apache Gold Casino Resort in San Carlos.

The Apache Nation announced the date after a slightly delay due to late summer monsoon storms, which disrupted the construction of the temporary building on the tribe’s reservation. As the date is not fixed yet, the interim COO for Apache Gold Casino Kurt Schmidt expressed that they are hoping for a mid-December opening.

The Apache Sky temporary Casino will be located within the Copper Corridor. The tribe’s plan is to finish the first phase of construction, which includes the building of the majority of the infrastructure. After that, the construction will allow the permanent structures to be built as the casino becomes more popular.

The new casino, which was expected to open in 2015, will employ over 200 residents. A hotel and RV Park are included in its long-term plan for the facility. The temporary structures will house approximately 15,000 square feet of casino gaming, a full-service bar, as well as a food court. The delay on the construction was partly due to the acquisition process to build a public roadway to allow access to the casino zone. And because the location of the new casino was close to the site where the massacre of numerous Aravaipa Apache members occurred in 1871.
