AC discusses North Jersey casinos
Operators and authorities discussed during the East Coast Gaming Congress the possibility of brining casinos to North Jersey.
US.- Meadowlands Racetrack owner Jeff Gural said during the latest edition of the East Coast Gaming Congress celebrated at Harrah’s Resort that North Jersey should wait until southern New York opens its facilities before moving forward with their projects.
“I don’t want to see this come on the ballot and lose again. O’d rather wait six years and wait until New York is either open or getting ready to open, at which point I think the voters will say, ‘Wait a second. What are these Atlantic City people arguing? That opening a casino in northern New Jersey will hurt their business when there are three casinos opening in southern New York that are going to wipe them out?,” said Gural. Last year, operators and politicians from the North part of New Jersey pushed to get casinos, but the referendum failed, as reported by the Press of Atlantic City.
Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo, D-Atlantic, disagreed with his fellow panelists and said: “The way it was defeated, I don’t see it being passed the second time,” Mazzeo said. “I don’t know how you come back from those numbers. Eighty to 20 percent is a pretty significant amount.”
