West Virginia moves forward with sports betting
The lottery commission filed legislative rules for public comment regarding sports betting.
US.- The West Virginia Lottery Commission filed on Monday legislative rules for public comment with the Secretary of State’s Office regarding sports betting. As the legal document details, the comment period ends on September 7th.
This move allows casinos and racetracks in the state to begin the process of setting up their businesses to offer sports betting services. If the lottery commission hadn’t filed the notice before today, sports betting operations would have been delayed until March 2019.
Danielle Boyd, managing legal counsel for the state Lottery Commission, said: “If they were ready to open today and they had all their systems in place, we would certainly have to do some testing, but we would be ready to take bets as that testing would conclude. If it’s the on-property testing, we anticipate that will take only a few days to complete.”
The notice establishes that the commission expects the impact of the law to be at least US$5.5 million in fiscal 2019. Additional revenues over the next five years are likely to be between US$13 million and US$18 million annually.
