Trump Taj Mahal strike becomes the longest in Atlantic City

The walkout against Trump Taj Mahal by Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union casino will become today the longest in the 38-year history of Atlantic City’s casino era.

US.- Today (Thursday), the walkout against Trump Taj Mahal casino by Local 54 of the Unite-HERE union will become the longest in the 38-year history of Atlantic City’s casino era.

The strike began on July 1 and as per today it will have lasted 35 days, surpassing the 34-day strike the union staged against seven casinos in 2004.

According to Unite-HERE union, no negotiations are scheduled. In the meantime, the Trump Taj Mahal casino has remained open for business during the entire walkout.

The union demands health insurance and pension benefits restored. A bankruptcy court judge had allowed the casino’s former owners to eliminate those benefits in 2014. Carl Icahn, the casino current owner and the union have been unable so far to come to an agreement.
