Tabcorp likely to miss bid for UK National Lottery
The Australian giant Tabcorp is reportedly uninterested in bidding for the licence of the UK National Lottery.
UK.- Tabcorp was rumoured to participate in the bidding process to obtain the licence rights of the UK National Lottery currently held by Camelot. However, recent reports have indicated that the Australian giant is uninterested in such a licence.
The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that a source familiar with Tabcorp indicated that the company is unlikely to participate and that it is focused on priorities in its own country.
The Western Australia government has recently launched a process to privatize the Western Australian TAB, and Tabcorp is setting its sights on it. While it will face strong competition from foreign operators, Tabcorp is still the leading contender for the licence.
National Lottery bid results could face delays
The UK government is considering shifting the responsibility for the National Lottery to a different department. According to a report from i, the companies involved in the bidding process will have to wait until the end of the year.
The news outlet reported that the lead financial adviser for the licence competition for the National Lottery, Rothschild & Co, will inform bidders that the awarding process will be delayed for two to three months.
Moreover, Prime Minister Boris Johnson may be interested in giving the power of the bidding process to the Cabinet Office or another department, instead of if staying with the Department of Culture, Digital, Media and Sport.
