Kansas and Missouri push for sports betting
The legalisation of sports betting is a top priority in Kansas and Missouri, but only as a hot debate topic as they haven’t approved any of the proposed bills.
US.- The sports betting industry continues to grow in the US and Kansas and Missouri discussed whether to legalise it. However, even as they debated the issue, no bill has seen the light in either state.
Nonetheless, a group of Missouri lawmakers trying to figure out how to pass sports betting legislation.
“I don’t think the question is if we’ll do it,” Rep. Wes Rogers, said. “I think it’s when and how we’ll do it.”
“There’s a bipartisan appetite for it. The casinos want it,” he added, as quoted by KMBC.
Rogers is part of a committee that met for the first time last week. They discussed how to handle gambling and video lottery terminals (VLTs).
“There’s no question that these machines are cropping up all over the state of Missouri,” Platte County prosecutor Eric Zahnd said. “What we really need to do is determine what Missouri is going to permit. What’s it’s going to prohibit and be clear about it.”
In regards to sports betting in Missouri, lawmakers want to hear professional associations’ takes. That’s why the MLB and the NFL will testify to the committee in November.
