Senate committee advances South Dakota online sports betting resolution
The resolution would allow residents to vote on allowing online sports betting.
US.- The Senate Commerce and Energy committee of South Dakota has advanced Senate Joint Resolution 502. The resolution would place a constitutional amendment allowing residents to vote on allowing online sports betting at the November 2022 election.
Sports betting has been allowed in Deadwood since 2020, but in order to place their bets, players have to be physically at a Deadwood casino. The city of Deadwood is the only territory in the state which offers legal gambling.
If the Senate Joint Resolution 502 is approved in the legislature, and South Dakota voters say yes to online sports betting on the November ballot, residents would be able to wager on sporting events through an app or electronic platform anywhere in the state.
According to Dakota News, the amendment would require that the online platform hosting bets have its servers located in the city limits of Deadwood.
