PokerStars now loses an European market

The government gave time to these kind of companies to arrange their businesses since 2007, when they announced a change of gambling operations starting in 2015.

Austria.- The last few days PokerStars seems to walk towards the path of success with its return to the US. But yesterday, the most famous online poker website received the bad news that its French version for Austrian market will have to end operations in the country because of an update in the taxation law.

Austrian PokerStars’ customers were notified by e-mail that from today, March 1, the Amaya’s brand will leave the country market, administered by French arm, pokerstars.fr. The company cannot pay the double amount of taxes that has been giving to both France and Austria. Nevertheless, the client accounts will be open and accessible for withdrawing deposits and purchasing cash rebates or any product of the company in exchange of the previous collection of StarCoins.

Since January, the new legislation regularised last year has been making some chances and PokerStars was paying 20 percent VAT tax to the Austrian government and a 37 percent to the French government. Austrian players will have to play on Win2Day, the only gambling website with poker license in the country.
