Plans presented for Chicago temporary casino
Operators have put forward proposals for what would be the first casino to operate in the city.
US.- Several operators have presented plans on how they would operate a potential temporary casino in Chicago.
The mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, had invited operators to put forward plans and to opine on whether the temporary venue was a good idea.
The venue would be part of a capital plan drawn up by Illinois’ governor Pritzker in 2019. The plan allows for several new casinos in the state.
Several cities in the state have already gained approval to host the new venues, and surprisingly lawmakers allowed Chicago to join the fray, but there is as yet no clear picture of what form the casino would take.
The city’s mayor appears to be in favour for the potential tax revenue that a casino could bring to the city, but there is still a long way to go before any potential opening. Originally the city had proposed setting tax so high that operators were disuaded from expressing an interest in the project.
That’s since come down, but there are still many doubts about how the casino might be run, although it seems a decision has been made that downtown Chicago will be the location.
Last month, officials in Illinois’ south suburbs expressed concern over the Illinois Gaming Board delaying the issuing of licences.
