Oaklawn racetrack talks gambling expansion

The facility will benefit from the recent gambling expansion approved by Arkansans voters.

US.- Issue 4 was approved by Arkansans voters on Tuesday, which paves the way for a gambling expansion and casino legalisation in the state. Oaklawn Racing and Gaming said that it intends to “move forward” after the decision.

The ballot allows the expansion of operations at Oaklawn Racing and Gaming in Hot Springs and Southland Gaming and Racing in West Memphis. Both facilities offer electronic games of skill since 2005.

Moreover, Issue 4 authorises the state to issue licences for casinos in Jefferson and Pope counties, which are also eligible to offer sports betting if they decide to do so.

The racetrack said in a statement that it took no position on the ballot before the election because it was a question for voters. “Now that voters have spoken, Oaklawn will move forward as legislation and regulation permits, and continue with preparations for the 2019 live racing season, which begins January 25,” the statement said.
