North American slots sales up
Sales in the US and Canada increased by 15.7 per cent during the second quarter of the year.
US.- According to information released by Todd Eilers of Eilers and Krejcik Gaming, slot sales in the United States and Canada grew by 15.7 per cent during the second quarter of the year, ended June 2018.
The report says that the increase was driven by the openings of Hard Rock and Ocean Resort in Atlantic City and MGM Springfield in Massachusetts. For the whole year, Eilers said that it is expected a 6.1 per cent increase.
“While current VLT replacement activity is fairly light, we do anticipate both Canada and Oregon VLT replacement sales to pick up again in 2H18 and continuing to grow in CY19 and CY20 as the install base continues to age and previously purchased games in 2012-2014 have now become fully depreciated,” reads the report.
Eilers added that it’s also important to note that the traditional purchasing model in Canada is changing to include more of an annual replacement cycle for many provinces and that in some cases there will be a move to a recurring revenue model versus purchasing. It also estimated that there were approximately 428 table games in the three month period ended in June. “In CY18 we now look for the addition of 920 new table games to be added due to new openings across commercial and tribal jurisdictions in Massachusetts, New Jersey, Florida, California and Wisconsin.”
