New MGM casino not responsible for traffic enforcement costs
The new MGM National Harbor won’t be on the hook for covering costs associated with traffic enforcement.
US.- Residents in Prince George County’s National Harbor and Oxon Hill communities set a meeting to discuss the expected increases in traffic in the area. It is expected that more than 10.000 vehicles will travel to the casino on its first week. MGM National Harbor will be open to the public on Dicember 8.
The county’s taxpayers will also pay for the managenent and enforcement of the congestion, where more than 200 police officers will be deployed each day to manage the traffic in the first weeks following the big opening. Specialists expect the operation to surpass the million dollars.
Bradley Frome, an economic aide to Prince George County Executive Rushern Baker III, said: “A lot of the off-site activity, off the grounds of the property, the county is going to be paying for.” MGM CEO Jim Murren confessed that the goal is to generate the majority of the business from players outside of the DC metro.
National Harbor has hired about 350 employees and has extended employment offers to more than 2200 people. MGM plans on hiring 3,600 workers.
