New Jersey takes sports betting to Supreme Court

New Jersey will appeal the sports betting resolution to negotiate a legalisation.

US.- New Jersey will file a petition to the Supreme Court this week in order to legalise the sports betting industry. In 2014, the State passed a law to regulate the sector, which was previously banned. The Third Circuit Court of Appeals rejected last August the proposal to set another debate for the legalisation.

Senator Raymond Lesniak could issue the statement soon. “Winning this fight for legal sports betting means hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity and saving thousands of jobs for New Jersey. I will fight NFL all the way to the US Supreme Court,” he said.

The major North American professional sports leagues, the NCAA and the Department of Justice challenged the law as violating PA SPA, Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, which prevents the spreading of sports betting in the United States.
