The Netherlands’ gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has announced a clampdown against affiliates that promote online gambling.

The Netherlands.- The Dutch gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has announced a new clampdown on affiliates that promote online gaming ahead of the launch of the Netherland’s licensed igaming market.

The regulator said it was stepping up enforcement actions against affiliates in advance of the launch of regulated igaming on October 1.

Its previous clampdown inspected 44 sites and resulted in 26 being told to remove adverts that promoted online gambling.

Three sites only removed the adverts after being issued with warnings of financial penalties, while another three were subject to further investigation.

Although The Netherlands’ new Remote Gambling Act has come into force and the regulator has begun taking licence applications, the advertising of online gambling remains illegal in the country until the online market goes live on October 1.

So far, the KSA has said it has received 28 applications for Dutch igaming licences. It had initially expected to grant 35 licences ahead of the launch of regulated igaming.
