Navajo Nation to reopen 2 casinos

The Navajo Nation will first reopen two properties, then decide after fourteen days whether or not to open its other two casinos.

US.- The Navajo Nation will reopen two of its casinos in New Mexico this week, as Covid-19 cases fall in the state.

The Fire Rock Navajo Casino and the Northern Edge Casino in Farmington are set to reopen on Friday. Entry will be limited to those who live on the reservation.

The casinos will operate at 25 per cent capacity and will not offer food and drinks services. Use of masks will be obligatory and temperatures will be checked on entrance. All employees will be tested for Covid-19 before returning to work and will be retested every two weeks.

The Navajo Nation has also decided to dedicate certain times on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings to elderly patrons.

After two weeks of operations, the tribe will decide whether or not to open its other two properties, one in northwestern New Mexico and the other east of Flagstaff.

Navajo President Jonathan Nez, said in a statement: “We recognize the hardships, sacrifices and losses that our people continue to endure and we pray for protection and recovery from Covid-19, and we thank our health care workers and frontline workers who put themselves in harm’s way to help our Navajo people to save countless lives.”
