Mississippi’s casino revenue grows in May
After a record-breaking April, revenue for casinos in Mississippi continued to grow as it reached US$181 million in May.
US.- Casino revenue in Mississippi continues to improve as the figure for May was up seven per cent year-on-year to reach US$181 million. The segment had posted a record US$108.6 million revenue in April after growing nine per cent and maintained the upward trend last month.
Last month’s numbers were driven by Gulf Coast casinos, which carried the industry for the second month in a row. In May, the industry managed to post revenue US$12 million higher than 2017’s US$169 million, mainly thanks to the US$107 million posted at the 12 coastal casinos.
According to official figures, the 16 river casino winnings were barely higher than the US$73 million posted in May 2017. It was the second month over the last year that revenues were flat as they grew less than one per cent.
Last week The Mississippi Gambling Commission approved a series of regulations that allow casinos in the state to offer sports betting, turning it into the fourth state in the country to legalise sports betting. We can therefore expect casino revenue to be even higher after the segment goes live on July 21st.
