Michigan sport betting revs hit $100k in first month
Figures are not as high as expected but reflect just 16 days of betting action due to Covid-19 lockdown.
US.- Michigan sports betting operators generated revenues of $105,548 in March, the first month of wagers since the state legalised the activity.
While these figures were not as high as originally expected, operators were only able to accept sports bets for 16 days before the Coronavirus outbreak caused them to shut up shop.
Michigan’s three casinos saw their overall revenue drop by 59.1 per cent year-on-year, with last month’s earnings totalling $57.4million.
This represented a 52.8 per cent drop on February’s total, which stood at $121.7million.
With lockdown measures still in place throughout the US, Michigan might look to push ahead with plan to roll out mobile sports betting.
Original plans were to launch mobile betting in 2021, but with casinos out of action, this could be sped up.
Whilst almost all sports are also cancelled due to Covid-19, some events are still going ahead.
