Michigan casinos call for bailout
Amid the Coronavirus pandemic, Michigan casinos want a bailout as all 26 of them remain closed and are losing millions daily.
US.- The gaming industry is struggling amid the Coronavirus pandemic and Michigan casinos are no exception. That’s why the industry is asking for a bailout as it’s losing millions a day.
There are currently 26 gaming venues in the state. However, all of them are temporarily out of business to prevent COVID-19 from further spreading.
The push comes from the MGM Grand, MotorCity, and Greektown, the largest venues in Detroit. They call for the Michigan government to step in and help casinos.
According to estimates, the industry would lose US$1 billion if the shut down lasts for two months.
Just two weeks ago, the state forecasted a huge month for the gaming segment. Sports betting had arrived and everything seemed bright, but the pandemic took over and spoiled the party.
Nonetheless, Michigan casinos aren’t the only market hurting from the virus’ impact. That’s why it remains to be seen if the state decides to step in and help, potentially pushing other segments to call for aid as well.
The government will most likely reach a decision in the next few days and announce whether it’ll help the industry or not.
