Meadowlands reports its first sports betting numbers

The New Jersey racetrack took US$3.5 million in sports bets in just nine days of operations.

US.- The Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey reported its first sports betting numbers, which indicate that in only nine days of operations approximately US$3.5 million were placed in sports bets.

The impressive numbers are despite two weekends of almost no activity in major professional sports, due to baseball’s All-Star break and basketball and the FIFA World Cup being over. Jeff Gural, the operator of Meadowlands, said that they did okay in the first few days of operations, which started on July 14th.

“We did OK,” Gural said on Monday. “Our goal the first weekend was to exceed US$1 million which we did. The next four days were quiet with nothing to bet on due to the All-Star break.” He said that he’s happy with the performance “despite the fact that we are not at full strength and only have 10 live tellers windows open.”
